Becoming a Precinct Chairman
ATTN: New Precinct Chairs! Attend our
Precinct Chairman Orientation Feb. 25!
Want to be a Precinct Chairman? There are two ways ...
Appear on the 2012 ballot (two-year term starting after the Primary)
Any eligible person may file as a candidate for Precinct Chairman by submitting the Texas Secretary of State's application to TCRP headquarters (same physical and mailing address as above). There is no filing fee for the office of Precinct Chair. Please note: your Chairmanship (if you're the winner of the election) will not begin until after the 2012 Primary. The best way to serve is to seek appointment by the TCRP.
*Note: The second filing period is still undetermined. Please see our Blog for any future announcements.
Fill a vacancy for a 2010-12 Term (unfilled positions -- RECOMMENDED)
Any eligible person may be appointed by the party to fill a Precinct Chairman vacancy at any time.
Appointment is by majority vote of the County Executive Committee present at a properly called meeting with a quorum, unless otherwise stipulated by the Texas Election Code (171.024-5).
You may check to see if there is a vacancy in your precinct on the list below. If there is a vacancy, you may fill out our application. You may e-mail your filled-out application to sheila.tcrp@gmail.com or print off and return your filled-out application in person or by mail to the following address:
TCRP Headquarters
7901 Cameron Rd., #3-202
Austin, Texas 78754
The Travis County Republican Party Vacancy Committee will then contact you to schedule an interview and will choose whether to recommend you as a precinct chairman to the party's Executive Committee.
