Travis County GOP debuts 12 candidates for Primary

The Travis County Republican Party will introduce 10 candidates [now 12 -- see update below] to the public at a press conference set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.

While the Redistricting situation is still up in the air and more candidates may yet file for Texas House, Texas Senate, and U.S. Congressional seats, the following candidates have submitted paperwork by the longstanding Dec. 15 deadline and have paid their filing fees.  (Note: A three-judge panel in San Antonio has extended the filing deadline until Monday, Dec. 19, and more candidates may be added by then.)

Our candidates are as follows:

  • Rosemary Edwards, incumbent for Travis County Republican Party Chairman    
  • Raymond Frank, candidate for Travis County Sheriff
  • Al Herrera, candidate for Travis County Constable, Precinct 2    
  • Mike Varela, candidate for Travis County Constable, Precinct 3    
  • Gerald Daugherty, candidate for Travis County Commissioner, Precinct 3   
  • Paul Workman, incumbent for Texas House, District 47  
  • Ryan Downton, candidate for Texas House, District 47
  • Jim Strickland, candidate for Travis County Commissioners Court, Precinct 3
  • Toby Miller, candidate for Travis County Constable, Precinct 2
  • Vik Vad, candidate for Travis County Tax Assessor/Collector

The following candidates filed with Travis County GOP today:

  • Ira Yates, candidate for Travis County Commissioner, Precinct 3
  • Robert Thomas, candidate for Texas House, District 48
