There are several organization responsible for the administration of elections in Travis County. All have excellent websites that contain useful information on voting, but we've clarified how each organization can help you.

In Travis County, the responsibility of voter registration falls on the Tax Assessor. The Tax Assessor works closely with the County Clerk's office. For your convenience, many of the areas covered on the Tax Assessor's website are also on the Clerk's website.

The Elections Division in the County Clerk's office handles the logistical aspects of Election Day, such as securing polling locations and performing the payroll function for election workers. The Travis County Republican Party works closely with the County Clerk for most aspects of running elections.

The Secretary of State is the Chief Elections Officer for Texas, overseeing voter registration, elections administration and legal interpretations of election law.

Due to the Help America Vote Act, for the first time the Secretary of State's Election Division is authorized to verify voter registration logs (including social security and driver license numbers) from each county and from other states. This will help them:

-ensure that voters are U.S. citizens
-ensure that voters are not registered more than once

The Secretary of State hosts seminars and election schools, provides calendars, ballot certification, Primary Election funding and assistance to the general public about voting.
