Travis GOP supports Orange County Republican Party censure of Speaker Dade Phelan

The Travis County GOP, the Republican Party of the greater Austin metro area, supports their conservative colleagues in Orange County to censure the current Texas House Speaker. Below is the text of the resolution, in compliance with state party Rule 44, approved Sept. 19, 2023:

WHEREAS, pursuant to Rule 44 of the Republican Party of Texas (RPT), the Orange County Republican Party voted affirmatively and did adopt a resolution to censure Speaker Dade Phelan for reasons stated in such resolution; and

WHEREAS, Orange County Texas, being in House District 21, is represented by Representative Dade Phelan;

WHEREAS, the Orange County Texas Republican Party’s censure requested the Republican Party of Texas to concur with its resolution of censure and impose all penalties available to it as described in Rule 44 of the Republican Party of Texas;

WHEREAS, State Representative Dade Phelan, as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, has abused the power of his office and his authority as Speaker by taking three or more actions during this current biennium that are either in opposition to the core principles of the Republican Party of Texas, or opposition to the Republican Party of Texas Legislative Priorities, or both;

WHEREAS, the Republican Party of Texas passed a resolution condemning the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives led impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton on June 17, 2023 for reasons stated therein;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Republican Party of Travis County, Texas adopts this resolution stating its full support of Republican Party of Orange County, Texas and all requested relief stated therein; and be it further

RESOLVED, that we request the State Republican Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Texas concur in the Resolution of Censure adopted by the Republican Party of Orange County, Texas and thereafter impose upon Representative Dade Phelan all penalties provided in Rule 44 of the Rules of the Republican Party of Texas; and be it further

RESOLVED, that an official copy of this resolution be prepared and transmitted to the Republican Party of Orange County, Texas Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas for further appropriate action. Approved 9/19/23, 68-1.
