Austin Republicans Stand with Israel

The Travis County Republican Party voted in its October Executive Committee to support the nation of Israel and condemn recent attacks by Hamas and antisemitic viewpoints. The text of the resolution is as follows.

WHEREAS the terrorist group Hamas engaged in an act of war against the people of Israel; and

WHEREAS Joe Biden’s actions regarding Iran, including releasing billions in sanctioned assets, have endangered the peace and security of the Middle East and recent events are a reminder that appeasement of regimes like that in Iran harms world peace and American national security; and

WHEREAS some academics and some Democratic elected officials have been verbally attacking Israel, instead of the Hamas terrorists; and

WHEREAS Plank 271 of the Republican Party of Texas Platform – which originated from Travis County – supports Israel and its right to secure borders and self-defense; and

WHEREAS the Republican Party is the party of Judeo-Christian values, supports religious freedom, and opposes all forms of socialism, including National Socialism; and

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TRAVIS COUNTY REPUBLICAN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE that the Travis County Republican Party stands with Israel and supports Israel’s right to defend itself against acts of terrorism committed against the Jewish people by Hamas; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that antisemitism has no place in the Republican Party, which always has opposed and always will oppose National Socialism; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Travis County Republican Party supports the proposed resolution before the State Republican Executive Committee supporting Israel; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Travis County Republican Party calls on all party leaders at the local, state, and national levels to take a firm stand against antisemitism and under no circumstances should Republican leaders meet with or give aid and comfort to known antisemites, and that the county party encourages further efforts on the part of state party leadership to publicize the party’s strong stand in favor of Israel and its principled stand against any form of antisemitism.
